How Livestreams are Helping TikTok Gamers Grow

By Editorial Staff

Ah, TikTok. Home to funny memes, trending dances, helpful tutorials, and other interests. But recently, the platform has attracted a new niche audience — TikTok gamers. You’ve heard of Twitch. You’ve heard of Youtube Gaming. Now, gaming influencers, gaming organizations, and game brands are taking to TikTok to grow their platforms.

Why Game on TikTok?

With other gaming platforms already out there, why are TikTok gamers a thing? Well, like any social media channel, TikTok helps increase awareness of the gamer themselves. By becoming popular on multiple platforms, gamers increase their influence and can even encourage their audience to watch on Twitch or Youtube Gaming. Another reason why TikTok is so attractive to gamers is the unique algorithm. Gamers are more likely to go viral, and it’s easier for interested audiences to discover these gamers on the For You Page. And more than Let’s Play-style videos, TikTok gamers are making inside jokes, dueting with other gamers, and reviewing their favorite technology.

TikTok has even attracted more than just veteran gamers hoping to grow their following. Hoping to capitalize on the growing niche, TikTok dancers and comedians are even producing more gaming content during quarantine

How TikTok Gamers are Capitalizing on Livestreams

Many gamers are utilizing TikTok Live to live stream to their followers. A common format involves gamers streaming on TikTok on their phone while playing a game on their console or PC. Just like any gaming live stream, there’s usually hilarious commentary too. On TikTok Live, gamers who are at least 18 years old can even receive digital currency from their followers, which can be exchanged for cash.

Gamers, like Legendaley, use TikTok Live to direct their followers towards their live stream on other gaming platforms. “TikTok Live is just for people who want to get in and get out…viewers who are native to Twitch want to go on Twitch to watch something for a while.” Legendaley credits this strategy as the reason why his live stream viewership is so high at the beginning as compared to the slow buildup. He also says that by doing this, his Twitch channel has grown significantly.

Remember, there are requirements you must fulfill before being about to live stream:

  • Have at least 1K followers
  • Be at least 16 years of age

How to Grow as a TikTok Gamer?

1. Create Valuable Content

You won’t gain followers if you only use TikTok to direct users towards your other gaming platforms. By live-streaming and creating niche content, TikTok users can get to know you and your brand. By having a memorable personality and style, people are more likely to engage with all future content.

2. Post Highlights from Your Latest Stream

These types of posts are popular among TikTok gamers because they let newcomers get a feel for your channel and followers to catch up on missed moments. Don’t forget to link your main gaming platform or socials on your account.

3. Post at the Right Time Using the Right Hashtags

The key to growth is optimizing your content. When does your target audience go on TikTok? What hashtags are they interested in?
