Shakespeare wrote, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players,” so it’s no wonder why writers, having been inspired by the bard, would take to Instagram and make that platform their stage. It’s probably not what Shakespeare intended, but how could a playwright from the 1500s ever predict that the world would look like this? Want to discover some new writers? Read ahead, and recognize these fabulous authors on Instagram.

Regardless if this was really what the Bard of Avon had in mind, poets, novelists, and all other writers alike are on Instagram right now. These writers are promoting their current, latest, or soon-to-be-published work. I don’t know about you, but I have a long to-be-read list, and I’m always eager to add more!

1. @victoriaaveyard 


Victoria Aveyard is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of both the Red Queen and Realm Breaker series. Holding a BFA in Writing for Film & Television from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, she comes from a background in screenwriting. The next installment in the Realm Breaker series will be published on June 28, 2023. So if you love action-packed fantasy fiction, check out her works! You may find one of your new favorite reads.

Up next on our authors on Instagram list is Leigh Barugo, another famous fantasy fiction writer. Originally born in Jerusalem, Barugo grew up with her grandparents in Los Angeles. Barugo is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Ninth House and the creator of a universe throughout a plethora of her trilogies and duologies dubbed the “Grishaverse.”

The Grishaverse is also now a Netflix original series; the show is named after the trilogy that begins the Grishaverse, The Shadow and Bone Trilogy. More information on the Grishaverse can be found on the dedicated website here.

Angie Thomas is an author who delves into topics on racial discrimination, racial profiling, poverty, and coming-of-age hardships. Angie Thomas’ THE HATE U GIVE started as a senior project in college. It had later been acquired by Balzer+Bray, a HarperCollins imprint. At the debut of the novel, it was at the #1 slot on the New York Times bestselling list.

In addition, Thomas’ second novel, ON THE COME UP also reached #1 on the New York Times bestselling list and a film adaptation is currently in development with Paramount Pictures. In 2021, Thomas also released a prequel to THE HATE U GIVE entitled CONCRETE ROSE which also debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestselling list.

Everyone knows Hank Green for his informational videos on his Crash Course channel on YouTube. Green’s presence on YouTube is widespread as he’s the  ½ of the duo most famously known as the Vlog Brothers. His brother, John Green, has also more famously published many novels as well. If you loved John Green’s Fault in Our Stars, you’ve got to check out Hank’s remarkable works.

Hank’s debut novel, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, was published in September of 2018 and was quite different from what his brother was publishing. However, Hank’s duology focused on artificial intelligence, the power of social media, greed, and what all of these things do to people.

Number five on our authors on Instagram list is Jon Krakauer, a well-known nonfiction novelist and mountaineer. Jon Krakauer is the New York Times bestselling author of Into the Wild and Into Thin Air. His novels depict treacherous adventures in dangerous landscapes that Krakauer either experienced himself or knew very well from living and growing up around them. If you’re a nature lover or even someone who loves being outdoors, you’ll love Krakauer.

Another fantastic writer on our authors on Instagram is Neil Gaiman. Gaiman is the New York Times bestselling author of Neverwhere, Stardust, the Hugo and Nebula award-winning American Gods, Anansi Boys, Good Omens, and the short stories collections Smoke and Mirrors and Fragile Things. Gaiman’s work has been internationally honored, awarding him with Newberry and Carnegie Medals.
