If you were on a YouTube craze, you might have heard of the iconic “Vlog Squad,” a group of influencers that was led most prominently by David Dobrik. You might also know a bit of the drama that went down with David and the Vlog Squad as a whole, resulting in several members making the decision to part ways from the group. We’re here to break it down for you.
Everything You Need to Know About What Happened to the Vlog Squad
Where it All Began
OG fans will remember David Dobrik and Jason Nash, another prominent member of the Vlog Squad, from Vine. Vine was an entertaining social media app somewhat similar to TikTok. Creators would post short videos on Vine, resulting in hilarious memes for the internet to remember for years to come.
In 2014, a few years before Vine would be shut down, David made the decision to transition to YouTube for longer-form content. Due to his success on Vine, he quickly became a popular vlogger and that’s how the Vlog Squad began. David would slowly add more and more members to the group, their vlogs getting more and more intense.
Where Things Took a Turn
Once 2020 hit, so did the subsequent COVID-19 pandemic, the vlogs had to take a pause. It wasn’t until the next year that David returned to YouTube with new vlog ideas.
However, one month later, Vlog Squad member Dominykas Zeglaitis, more commonly known as Durte Dom, was accused of assaulting a woman in the Vlog Squad house. Apart from the allegation itself, David apparently filmed one of the Vlog Squad videos the night that it happened. In the video, Dom can be seen with a group of women.
Both David and Dom have released apology videos after the incident, however, something like this doesn’t just blow over. David lost a lot of sponsorships and collaborations in the wake of it all. This loss resulted in another pause in uploading vlogs. While he claims this is because he was working on opening Doughbrik’s Pizza, his very own pizza shop, it’s hard to deny the real possible reason.
What Happened to the Rest of the Vlog Squad
When it comes to Jason Nash, who we mentioned was on Vine with David before the Vlog Squad even began, there’s nothing stopping him from continuing to create content. Jason is active on TikTok and YouTube, collaborating with several other creators. He also now has his own podcast, All Good Things, where he features several well-known guests.
Toddy Smith was another popular member of the group and has also continued his content creation. He posts a lot about fitness and even makes occasional music, but has recently started getting into filmmaking. Toddy has already made a few short films and seems to have a passion for it.
Liza Koshy is known for dating David Dobrik, as they had a very public relationship, but she actually left the Vlog Squad pre-pandemic when the two had decided to part ways. She’s now very successful in her own projects, starring in several movies since, including Transformers and A Family Affair.
Another Vine star, Scotty Sire, also continues to be successful, focusing primarily on his music. Meanwhile, Corinna Kopf has gained even more fame since joining OnlyFans. Matt King also keeps posting to his social media accounts.
Two duos that left the Vlog Squad together are Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar, who have their Zane and Heath: Unfiltered podcast, and Carly Incontro and Erin Gilfoy, who have their Only Friends podcast.
Another notable Vlog Squad member that also left with some drama is celebrity barber, Jeff Wittek, who ended up suing David for $10 million after he was reportedly injured after being tied to an excavator in a video stunt for the Vlog Squad. He now continues his work as a barber, has his own podcast called Jeff FM, and is the co-owner of the Aura watch brand.
The End of an Era
As disappointing as it may be to hear of the drama and departures regarding the Vlog Squad, it’s important to remember that most of the members seem to be more happy and successful doing their own things now. Everyone gets their start from somewhere and hopefully some important lessons were learned. Make sure to keep up with your favorite Vlog Squad creators now if you don’t already!
