Top YouTube Spenders 2021:Year in Review
Every sponsored YouTube video from the top brands in 2021 pointed viewers toward a purchase, through either a link in bio or a direct purchase page. The channel had stopped experimenting and started operating like performance infrastructure, built on offers, repetition, and creator trust.
Year in Review: Top Spenders on YouTube 2021 analyzes sponsored videos posted from January through December 2021. NeoReach used its Social Intelligence API to study FTC-compliant sponsored videos from US and Canadian creators that cleared at least 10,000 views. The final dataset held nearly 28,000 videos.
Inside, the report maps the brands, industries, campaign objectives, CTAs, content formats, creator partnerships, and quarter-by-quarter shifts that defined the year. The market was still led by Tech, Gaming, and Food & Drink, but the operating model had sharpened: limited-time offers dominated objectives, direct purchase pages dominated CTAs, and integrated placements remained the leading format. Fewer brands than the prior year still drove billions of views, a sign of a channel maturing around measurable return.
YouTube stayed a major channel: 3,387 qualifying brands, 27,917 videos, $603.9M in IMV, 4.1B views, and 44.3B reach.
Tech again led at 44% of total IMV among the top five industries, spending nearly twice as much as Gaming.
The top 10 brands invested $164M combined, led by Honey at $28.9M across 223 videos.
Offers ran the strategy: 85.14% of top-brand campaigns were limited-time offers.
Conversion was total: 100% of analyzed sponsored videos used a link-in-bio or direct purchase CTA, with 84.73% pointing straight to a purchase page.
Growth reversed 2020's pattern: IMV peaked in Q1 at $199M and fell about $77M by Q4.
