Top YouTube Spenders 2020:Year in Review
One brand spent $62.7 million on YouTube creators in a single year. That was Honey in 2020, the top of a market that generated over $1.1 billion in estimated media value and had quietly become performance media, not just a place to build awareness.
Year in Review: Top Spenders on YouTube 2020 captures that shift at scale. NeoReach analyzed sponsored YouTube videos posted from January through December 2020, drawn from more than 20 million videos and narrowed to FTC-compliant sponsored posts from US and Canadian creators with at least 10,000 views. The final dataset held more than 31,300 videos.
Inside, the report maps the industries, brands, campaign objectives, calls to action, content formats, and creator partnerships that defined YouTube sponsorships during one of the most disruptive years in modern marketing. The story is consistent: brands were not just buying reach. They were using creators to rebuild demand, drive direct response, and stay culturally visible as consumer behavior moved online almost overnight.
YouTube influencer marketing reached massive scale: 4,449 brands, $1.1B+ in IMV, 8.9B sponsored views, and 31,317 videos across the top 19 industries.
Tech was the clear leader at 44% of total IMV among the top five industries, spending nearly twice as much as Gaming.
The top 10 brands invested $368M, led by Honey at $62.7M, roughly $45M more than #10 Squarespace.
A small tier dominated: 16 'Supernova' brands each spent over $10M, and 907 brands spent over $100K.
YouTube was conversion-driven: 70.27% of top-brand campaigns were limited-time offers, and 70.86% of CTAs pointed to a direct purchase page.
Mega-creators were not the whole story: Tech activated PewDiePie, MrBeast, and others, but their 244.6M combined reach was just 1.5% of the category's total.
